This becomes a major problems you like using fighters and fighters are great for distraction. This means you have to manually give orders to every single unit even if you don't want them to move. There is also no way to tell your units to go to sleep or be on alert. Which also means you need to wait out the animation of every jump. You will have to move between each planet in order to get to your desired location. For example if you want to transverse large portions of your Federation you cannot just move to a specific planet. I'll be honest I was a bit underwhelmed to see the simplicity of the game but it is actually a fun game if you are looking for a RTS that is easy to get into and relaxing. Missions have a slight narrative relating to the story. Each planet has a backstory and so does each Federation. It is set well after Beyond Earth after several planets have been colonized. There are also Cards you can find in the map which give you temporary boosts in battle.įinally there is a story in the game. You can research a wonder if the planet joins your Federation. You can partial or full control of the planet's resources this way. You'll be fighting for Influence with other Federations. Morale is your stamina in this game and is used when traveling or doing missions. Shore Leave is the way you replenish Morale. You can gain further Influence by spending credits but this is a rare resource or by spending Shore Leave on their planet. When you complete a mission you gain Influence on a planet. Asteroids will reduce damage and shields have directional absorption unless you have the omnidirectional wonder. You also have torpedos which are slow moving bombs and fighters which are fast but fragile and weak additional units. Primary attacks are separated into ranged lasers or melee cannons. For upgrades you have the basics: speed, shields, hit points, primary attacks and secondary attacks. You'll want this ship to be good at surviving. Your first ship is your flagship and is the the ship you'd use in cutoff survival missions. Your generic ship can be upgraded and will be given a different title (Corvette, Cruiser, Battleship, Carrier, etc.). There are really just 3 types of main units: ship, planetary defenses and the escort. In addition survival can be varied by separating your fleet via means of pirates. Wonders help you control these obstacles and Science/Energy help you with speed, strength and defense. Mixed in with asteroids to block movement and gates to port ships around. However there are 4 types of missions: capture the node, escort, survival and deathmatch. All of them can be done by simply exterminating the other fleet essentially. Missions are generally similar to each other. You gain control of a planet by partaking in missions. You have a main fleet of up to 8 starships. You do this by battling with other fleets. Your minor goal is to gain control of planets. These victories are pretty similar to a traditional Civilization victory. Your major goal is to gain the most technologies, have the largest population, control the entire galaxy or have the most wonders. You can collect info on neighbouring Federations but beyond that negotiations are limited to war or peace. I won't detail them all since they are varied and many.Ĭities can be gained through Food. These choices don't really affect the game due to how easy it is to build up resources but they add to the customization. There are also several different leaders. There are 3 types of Federations Supremaency, Purity and Harmony. Wonders still give you a large bonus to your units or resources but in addition they are more random depending on the planet you induct into your federation.įederations are what a Civilization player would call their "civ." It consists of a bunch of planets, cities and your resources. It can also be used to research wonders which are different compared to Civilization. Energy builds your fleet, Science focuses your fleet into specific technologies and Metals builds your specific productions or defenses. Food grows your population which can grow the rest of your resources. You have 4 main resources: Food, Energy, Science and Metals. It is a simple game focusing more on combat with a Civilization feel. ![]() I have been able to play a few rounds over the past couple of days.
